I Am Not

I am not a rocket scientist.

I am not a dancer.

I am not a scrapbooker.

I am not a college graduate.

I am not a man.

I am not a killer whale trainer.

I am not an artist.

I am not perfect.

I am not a professional singer.

I am not a chef.

I am not a golfer.

I am not a soccer player.

I am not an employee.

I am not a super hero.

I am not an engineer.

I am not a gardener.

I am not disappointed that I am not these things.

There was a time in my life where I seemed to continually focus on the things that I was not. Many of the things in this "not" list were once aspirations of mine.

I stopped focusing on all the things I am not a long time ago. This enables me to be the best me that I can be, working on all the things that I am.

God knew what He was doing when He created us, blessing us with certain talents and abilities to be used for His glory, careful to make each of us unique with things that we are and certainly things we are not.

I am thankful for all the things that I am NOT. I am striving to honor God in all the things that I AM.

Psalm 139:13-16 (The Message)
Oh yes, you shaped me first inside, then out; you formed me in my mother's womb. I thank you, High God—you're breathtaking! Body and soul, I am marvelously made! I worship in adoration—what a creation! You know me inside and out, you know every bone in my body; You know exactly how I was made, bit by bit, how I was sculpted from nothing into something. Like an open book, you watched me grow from conception to birth; all the stages of my life were spread out before you, the days of my life all prepared before I'd even lived one day.

Thanks for sharing, Sharon. I think that is something we all need to hear, to remind us just how powerful God truely is.

Very well put. And I loved reading those verses in The Message version.

And it's nice to know I am not the only non-scrapbooker out there!

I just stood in front of the mirror this morning, getting ready for church and announced to myself and Mike, "I will never be a good looking pregnant person."

I was feeling bad about myself, but you made me feel better. There's so much more to my life - thanks God!

Ok Sharon, I am not going to leave a "thanks I really needed this" comment. I was just wondering when you ever aspired to be a soccer player!!!

Great post. Great insights. I agee with others, for all the things you are not, you ARE a great friend. Of course you are much more, but that one benefits me the most, so I wanted to share it.:)

I love it when God's children realize their worth through Him. You have so much to give and I have watched you give and give. Thanks friend.

Jill~Nope! I never wanted to be a soccer player, or a chef, or a gardener. Many of the things on the list were aspirations, but not all. But those are the things that I've had to come to terms with being ok that I am not. Raising two soccer players and not being able to coach them because I know nothing about the sport was sometimes frustrating. But I'm ok with that now! : ) I can "coach" them in other things, and I'm so thankful that Ben could be their soccer coach for so many years! God just always knows what He's doing~it's awesome! : )
