My God

How do you describe God?

As I take the next few days to describe the subtitle of my blog spot, I find myself faced with the task of putting my Great God into words. I do not believe that that is possible. I do not believe that the English language, nor any other man-made language is equipped to accurately describe God. We neatly arrange little boxes to put Him in, using the words we have decided best fit His characteristics: Omniscient, Omnipresent, Omnipotent, Love, Creator, Father. But the fact of the matter is that our humanity does not allow us to even fully comprehend what these words really mean.

So the question then becomes: What role does God play in my life?

God is the Sun to me. He sits in the center of my solar system. I strive for all things in my life to revolve around Him. Ideally, every decision that I make would be made only after seeking the Sun. Sadly, I often fail at that task. Fortunately, His grace is enough.

The light from my Sun shines brightly in my life. He is good. His rays bless me beyond measure. I pray that I may take full advantage of reflecting His light wherever possible, as the moon does for our earthly sun. I realize that I cannot produce light in and of myself, I can only be a reflection of His perfect light. He is the Source.

There are no shadows from His light. This is miraculous. It is light unlike anything we know as humans. It knows no boundaries. However, without shadows, there is nowhere to hide my imperfections. That is scary. Our natural instinct is to conceal our faults. That is not possible with my Sun, but He lovingly provides me with the tools necessary to overcome these faults.

My God is in charge of my life. I realized this for the first time at the age of twelve. God revealed Himself to me, using His Word. Romans 12:1-2 opened my eyes to how my life should be lived: "Therefore, I urge you, brothers (and sisters), in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasant to God--this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--His good, pleasing and perfect will." I will never forget that evening at a friend's youth group. It changed my life forever.

I am far from perfect. I will always have a long road to travel, following my Sun. I try not to characteristically "box" God, but at my lowest moments, I do choose to view God as my Loving Father. Here, I can crawl upon His lap, plead for forgiveness, and accept His comfort.

My God is perfect. I know that He will never fail me, regardless of how many times I fail Him. He is my Rock and my Salvation. He is my Sun.

Thanks for sharing one of the many ways God has revealed Himself to you.

There is something special about this post, especially when I listen to the music in the background. Mixed together they give me a glimpse of how grateful you are to God for all He has done in your life.

I've said it before, I will say it again. I love knowing my friends. This post helps me to understand a deeper side of you. I feel honored to share in it. Thanks!
